The Board of Trustees of the Chester County Library System congratulate Joe Sherwood for being awarded the J. Larry Boling Award for Excellence in Government. Joe was presented with the award by the County Commissioners at the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry Breakfast on Tuesday, April 17.The award honors an individual who is a professional in the local government public sector of Chester County who has established excellence in their jurisdiction in the administration of government through economy, efficiency and introduction of sound business practices, and projects or initiatives that demonstrate innovation.The citation by the Board of Commissioners states that with nearly 30 years in the public library field, Joe Sherwood has led the Chester County Library System as Executive Director since August 2011. During this time, the Chester County Library and District Center was named a 3-star library by Library Journal. Joe has overseen a number of renovations, moves and reorganizations. His enthusiasm, expertise and knowledge have helped the Chester County Library System maintain its strength even when libraries were faced with drastic funding shortfalls. In addition to his leadership of the library system, Joe has served on many committees within the Pennsylvania Library Association and the Association of Pennsylvania Library Systems. He supports many community non-profits and initiatives including the Citadel Heart of Learning Awards and the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls.
