Be Creative @ Your Library is the theme of the Downingtown Library's 2009 Summer Reading Club, held this year from June 8 to August 14, 2009. It is free and open to any child entering grades one through six in the fall. Registration begins Monday, June 8, and we ask parents to register in person at the library's circulation desk.
Our Summer Reading Club offers children the opportunity to read independently at home and earn prizes as they read. In addition, Club members can attend special program once a week from June 23 through August 11. Highlights of the programs include storytellers, puppeteers, live theater, a magician and much, much more.
New this year, the Summer Reading Program will also offer free arts and crafts days. They will be held upstairs at the library on Thursdays, July 9 to 30, from 1 to 3P.M. Activities will include sidewalk chalk art, paper bag puppets, and hand crafted musical instruments. Children also will have an opportunity to create their own versions of the works of great artists, such as Picasso, Matisse, and Georgia O'Keefe.
