February is Black History Month

Here's how some of our libraries are celebrating:


Kennett Library

Art Exhibit: Celebrating Black History Month

The exhibition will feature a number of hand-made quilts created by four African American women: Drema Benson, Sheri Lawrence, Rose Morgan, and Akita Woodford.

Quilts will also feature designs used during the Underground Railroad.

For 36 years, Marvin Worthy has been committed to minimizing the devastation caused by a lack of civility and a sense of belonging. A Great Valley High School alumni, Marvin formed Worthy Consulting & Training to further his goal of helping others to recognizes their role in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Indigo Scarf Author Discussion

Ned Hector: Revolutionary War Hero: A Living History Presentation

Ned Hector is a Revolutionary War hero, a free black man, who was a teamster and noted for his courage during the retreat from the Battle of Brandywine, where he refused to give up his horses, wagon and the armaments he was carrying.

Film Talk: I Am Not Your Negro

Join us for a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO (2016) written by James Baldwin, directed by Raoul Peck, and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson. The film explores the continued peril America faces from institutionalized racism. Sam Sorensen will facilitate a discussion following the film.

Ellington, Armstrong, & Other Pioneers of Jazz in America 1920-30

Jazz has been called "America's Classical Music" and tonight, the Blackbird Society Orchestra will take you on a musical journey through the "Roaring 20s," featuring Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, and much more.
